Welcome to the Hurricane Electric Math Site! This math site is a platform to gain and share mathematical knowledge, empowering people to learn from others and better understand mathematical concepts.
These terms of service ("Terms of Service") set forth the agreement ("Agreement") between you and Hurricane Electric ("Hurricane Electirc", "we", or "us"). It governs your use of the products and services we offer through our web and applications (collectively the "Hurricane Electric Math Site").
Please make sure to read it, because, by using the Hurricane Electric Math Site, you consent to these terms.
- The Mission of the Hurricane Electric Math Site Hurricane Electric's mission is to share and grow the world's knowledge of mathematics. The Hurricane Electric Math Site is a place to ask mathematical questions and connect with people who contribute unique insights and quality answers. This empowers people to learn from each other and to better understand the world of mathematics.
- Using the Hurricane Electric Math Site
- Who Can Use It. Use of the Hurricane Electric Math Site by anyone under 13 years of age is prohibited. You represent that you are at least the age of majority in the jurisdiction where you live or, if you are not, your parent or legal guardian must consent to these Terms of Service and affirm that they accept this Agreement on your behalf and bear responsibility for your use.
- Registration. When you set up a profile on the Hurricane Electric Math Site, you will be asked to provide certain information about yourself. You agree to provide us accurate information, including your real name, when you create your account on the Hurricane Electric Math Site. We will treat information you provide as part of registration in accordance with our Privacy Policy. You should take care in maintaining the confidentiality of your password.
- Privacy Policy. Our privacy practices are set forth in our Privacy Policy. By use of the Hurricane Electric Math Site, you agree to accept our Privacy Policy, regardless of whether you are a registered user.
- Acceptable Use Policy. In your interaction with others on the Hurricane Electric Math Site, you agree to follow the Acceptable Use Policy at all times.
- Termination. We may terminate or suspend your Hurricane Electric account if you violate any Hurricane Electric policy or for any other reason.
- Changes to the Hurricane Electric Math Site. We are always trying to improve your experience on the Hurricane Electric Math Site. We may need to add or change features and may do so without notice to you.
- Feedback. We welcome your feedback and suggestions about how to improve the Hurricane Electric Math Site. Feel free to submit feedback at math.he.net/contact. By submitting feedback, you agree to grant us the right, at our discretion, to use, disclose and otherwise exploit the feedback, in whole or part, freely and without compensation to you.
- Your Content
- Definition of Your Content. The Hurricane Electric Math Site enables you to add posts, texts, photos, videos, links, and files to share with others. All material that you upload, publish or display to others via the Hurricane Electric Math Site will be referred to collectively as "Your Content". You acknowledge and agree that, as part of using the Hurricane Electric Math Site, Your Content may be viewed by the general public.
- Ownership. You, or your licensors, as applicable, retain ownership of the copyright and other intellectual property in Your Content, subject to the non-exclusive rights granted to us below.
- License and Permission to Use Your Content.
- By submitting, posting, or displaying Your Content on the Hurricane Electric Math Site, you grant Hurricane Electric and its affiliated companies a nonexclusive, worldwide, royalty free, fully paid up, transferable, sublicensable (through multiple tiers), license to use, copy, reproduce, process, adapt, modify, create derivative works from, publish, transmit, store, display and distribute, and otherwise use Your Content in connection with the operation or use of the Hurricane Electric Math Site or the promotion, advertising or marketing thereof, in any and all media or distribution methods (now known or later developed). You agree that this license includes the right for Hurricane Electric to make Your Content available to other companies, organizations, business partners, or individuals who collaborate with Hurricane Electric for the syndication, broadcast, distribution or publication of Your Content through other media or distribution methods. This license also includes the right for other users of the Hurricane Electric Math Site to use and modify Your Content, subject to our Terms of Service.
- Once you post an answer to a question, you may edit or delete your answer at any time from public display on http://math.he.net. However, we may not be able to control removal of the answer from display on syndicated channels or other previously distributed methods outside of math.he.net. Hurricane Electric may remove suspected spam from your answers. Once you post a question, it may be edited or deleted by other users or by Hurricane Electric at any time. Any edits and changes made by you may be visible to other users. The right for Hurricane Electric to copy, display, transmit, publish, perform, distribute, store, modify, and otherwise use any question you post, and sublicense those rights to others, is perpetual and irrevocable, to the maximum extent permitted by law, except as otherwise specified in this Agreement.
- You acknowledge and agree that Hurricane Electric may preserve Your Content and may also disclose Your Content and related information if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such preservation or disclosure is reasonably necessary to:
- comply with legal process, applicable laws or government requests;
- enforce these Terms of Service;
- respond to claims that any of Your Content violates the rights of third parties;
- detect, prevent, or otherwise address fraud, security or technical issues; or
- protect the rights, property, or personal safety of Hurricane Electric, its users, or the public.
- You understand that we may modify, adapt, or create derivative works from Your Content in order to transmit, display or distribute it over computer networks, devices, service providers, and in various media. We also may remove or refuse to publish Your Content, in whole or part, at any time.
- You further give us the permission and authority to act as your nonexclusive agent to take enforcement action against any unauthorized use by third-parties of any of Your Content outside of the Hurricane Electric Math Site or in violation of our Terms of Service.
- Your Responsibilities for Your Content. By posting Your Content on the Hurricane Electric Math Site, you represent and warrant to us that:
- you have the ownership rights, or you have obtained all needed licenses or permissions from any necessary parties, to use Your Content and grant us the rights to use Your Content as provided for under this Agreement, and
- that posting Your Content violates no intellectual property or personal right of others or any applicable law or regulation. You accept full responsibility for avoiding infringement of the intellectual property or personal rights of others or violation of laws and regulations in connection with Your Content. You are responsible for ensuring that Your Content does not violate Hurricane Electric's Acceptable Use Policy, Copyright Policy, Trademark Policy, other published Hurricane Electric policy, or any applicable law or regulation. You agree to pay all royalties, fees, and any other monies owed to any person by reason of Your Content.
- Our Content and Materials
- Definition of Our Content and Materials. All intellectual property in or related to the Hurricane Electric Math Site (specifically including, but not limited to our software, the Hurricane Electric marks, the Hurricane Electric logo, but excluding Your Content) is the property of Hurricane Electric, or its subsidiaries and affiliates, or content posted by other Hurricane Electric users licensed to us (collectively "Our Content and Materials").
- Data. All data Hurricane Electric collects ("Data") about use of the Hurricane Electric Math Site by you or others is the property of Hurricane Electric, its subsidiaries, and affiliates. For clarity, Data does not include Your Content and is separate from Our Content and Materials.
- Our License to You.
- We grant you a limited, non-exclusive license to use and access Our Content and Materials and Data as made available to you on the Hurricane Electric Math Site in connection with your use of the Hurricane Electric Math Site, subject to the terms and conditions of this Agreement.
- Hurricane Electric gives you a worldwide, royalty-free, revocable, non-assignable and non-exclusive license to re-post Our Content and Materials anywhere on the web provided that:
- the user who created the content has not explicitly marked the content as not for reproduction on the Hurricane Electric Math Site;
- you do not modify the content;
- you attribute Hurricane Electric by name in readable text and with a human and machine-followable link (an HTML <a> anchor tag) linking back to the page displaying the original source of the content on https://math.he.net on every page that contains Our Content and Materials;
- upon request, either by Hurricane Electric or a user, you remove the user's name from content which the user has subsequently made anonymous;
- upon request, either by Hurricane Electric or by a user who contributed to the content, you make a reasonable effort to update a particular piece of content to the latest version on the Hurricane Electric Math Site; and
- upon request, either by Hurricane Electric or by a user who contributed to the content, you make a reasonable attempt to delete content that has been deleted or marked as not for reproduction on the Hurricane Electric Math Site;
- you don't republish more than a small portion of Our Content and Materials. In exercising these rights, you may not implicitly or explicitly assert any connection with, sponsorship or endorsement by Hurricane Electric, or any Hurricane Electric user, without separate, express prior written permission from us.
- We may terminate our license to you at any time for any reason. We have the right but not the obligation to refuse to distribute any content on the Hurricane Electric Math Site or to remove content. Except for the rights and license granted in these terms, we reserve all other rights and grant no other rights or licenses, implied or otherwise.
- Permitted uses. If you operate a search engine, web crawler, bot, scraping tool, data mining tool, bulk downloading tool, wget utility, or similar data gathering or extraction tool, you may access the Hurricane Electric Math Site, subject to the following additional rules:
- you must use a descriptive user agent header;
- you must follow robots.txt at all times;
- your access must not adversely affect any aspect of the Hurricane Electric Math Site's functioning; and
- you must make it clear how to contact you, either in your user agent string, or on your website if you have one.
- No Endorsement or Verification. Please note that the Hurricane Electric Math Site contains access to third-party content, products and services, and it offers interactions with third parties. Participation or availability on the Hurricane Electric Math Site does not amount to endorsement or verification by us. We make no warranties or representations about the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of any content posted on the Hurricane Electric Math Site by anyone.
- Ownership. You acknowledge and agree that Our Content and Materials remain the property of Hurricane Electric's users or Hurricane Electric. The content, information and services made available on the Hurricane Electric Math Site are protected by U.S. and international copyright, trademark, and other laws, and you acknowledge that these rights are valid and enforceable.
- Integrated Service Provider You may enable another online service provider, such as a social networking service ("Integrated Service Provider"), to be directly integrated into your account on the Hurricane Electric Math Site. By enabling an integrated service, you are allowing us to pass to, and receive from, the Integrated Service Provider your log-in information and other user data. For more information about Hurricane Electric's use, storage, and disclosure of information related to you and your use of integrated services within Hurricane Electric, please see our Privacy Policy. Note that your use of any Integrated Service Provider and its own handling of your data and information is governed solely by their terms of use, privacy policies, and other policies.
- More About Certain Offerings on the Hurricane Electric Math Site
- Legal, Medical, & Other Professional Contributors. Some users who post content are members of legal, medical, and other licensed professions (collectively, "Professional Contributors"). Content posted by Professional Contributors should be not be relied on as a substitute for advice from a professional that is appropriate for your specific situation. Hurricane Electric has provided certain disclaimer template language that Professional Contributors may edit and incorporate in their answers. Ethics rules differ by state or location, and it is the responsibility of Professional Contributors to determine and provide disclaimers appropriate for their profession and the content provided.
- Buttons, Links, and Widgets. You have permission to use Hurricane Electric's buttons, links, and widgets, subject to these Terms of Service (including the disclaimers and limitations of liability) and provided that:
- your use of such buttons, links and widgets link only to the Hurricane Electric Math Site;
- you will not modify such buttons, links, or widgets or associated code in any manner;
- you will not use any such buttons, links, or widgets in any manner which implies or suggests that Hurricane Electric endorses, sponsors, or recommends the website on which such buttons, links and widgets are used; and
- the use of such buttons, links and widgets, and the website on which such buttons, links and widgets are used do not violate Hurricane Electric's Acceptable Use Policy.
- DISCLAIMERS AND LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
- NO WARRANTY. EXCEPT AS SPECIFICALLY SET FORTH HEREIN, THE SERVICES ARE PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" BASIS, AND CUSTOMER'S USE OF THE SERVICES ARE AT CUSTOMER'S OWN RISK. HURRICANE DOES NOT MAKE, AND HEREBY DISCLAIMS, ANY AND ALL OTHER EXPRESS AND IMPLIED WARRANTIES, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NONINFRINGEMENT AND TITLE, AND ANY WARRANTIES ARISING FROM A COURSE OF DEALING, USAGE, OR TRADE PRACTICE. HURRICANE DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICES WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR COMPLETELY SECURE.
- Disclaimer of Third Party Actions and Control Hurricane does not and cannot control the flow of data to or from the Network and other portions of the Internet. Such flow depends in large part on the performance of Internet services provided or controlled by third parties. At times, actions or inactions caused by these third parties can produce situations in which Customer connections to the Internet (or portions thereof) may be impaired or disrupted. Hurricane cannot guarantee that such situations will not occur and, accordingly, Hurricane disclaims any and all liability resulting from or related to such events. In the event that Customer's use of the Service or interaction with the Internet or such third parties is causing harm to or threatens to cause harm to the Network or its operations, Hurricane shall have the right to suspend the Service. Hurricane shall restore Service at such time as it reasonably deems that there is no further harm or threat of harm to the Network or its operations.
- Damage to Customer Business In no event will Hurricane be liable for any incidental, punitive, indirect, or consequential damages (including without limitation any lost revenue or lost profits) or for any loss of technology, loss of data, or interruption or loss of use of Service or any other similar claims by Customer or related to Customer's business, even if Hurricane is advised of the possibility of such damages. Hurricane will not be liable for any damages or expenses incurred by Customer as a result of any deficiency, error, or defect in Hurricane's service whether due to equipment, hardware, software, or Hurricane Electric's failure to correct the same.
- Maximum Liability Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in this Agreement, Hurricane's maximum aggregate liability to Customer related to or in connection with this Agreement whether under theory of contract, tort (including negligence), strict liability or otherwise will be limited to the total amount paid by Customer to Hurricane for one month's service for the particular service in question.
- GOVERNING LAW and VENUE
- All interactions between you and Hurricane Electric shall be governed under the laws of the State of California, without regard to the conflicts of laws provisions.
- All legal processes shall be initiated and adjudicated within Alameda County in the State of California.
- AMENDMENTS and NOTICE
- These Terms of Service supersede all previous terms of service. In the event they conflict with a contract signed by both parties, the contract shall supersede these terms.
- Hurricane Electric may modify these terms of service at any time by posting the new terms of service on the Hurricane Electric web site. New terms of service shall take effect 30 days after posting.

- Should Hurricane Electric need to send notice or serve process, you agree to accept such at either the postal or email address provided in your contact information. Notices and service sent through such means shall be considered to have been delivered 5 days after deposit postage paid in the U.S. Mail, or, 48 hours after being sent by email.
