(a) Calculate the energy of the Compton-scattered photon at 0 = 0°, 45°, 90° and 180° for hv = 50 keV, 500 keV and 5 MeV. (b) Calculate the corresponding energies and angles of the scattered electron. Q2. n class we derived the differential electronic cross-section for Thomson scattering. From the ifferential cross-section determine the total electronic cross-section for Thomson scattering, Q3. An X-ray beam is incident on a block of carbon with thickness of 0.5 g/cm². Find the fraction of energy of the beam that is scattered at an angle of 90° to impinge on a detector having a cross- sectional area of 2 cm² and is located 10 cm from the scattering block. Assume only Thomson scattering events occur. (The electron density of Carbon is 3 x 1023 electrons/g).
